The
Enmore church of Christ was established on May 3, 1987 by some of the
brethren from the North Road church of Christ located in Georgetown, the
Capitol of Guyana.
The Church had it's beginning with only 5 members, under a house shed by
the home of Eileen Finlayson. She is the mother of Kenneth Finlayson, who
at that time, was a student in the School of Biblical Studies (SBS) to
become a minister of the gospel. Eileen was not a Christian at that time
and there were less than 10 congregations of the Lord's Church in Guyana.
In 1990, the Church had grown to the extent that it needed a larger
meeting place. Permission was granted for the use of the Hope West
Primary school. Although there were many inconveniences, it was a great
blessing indeed. The school remained our meeting place until we moved to
our current location. Eight years after we applied for government land,
we were given the opportunity to purchase two house lots. We have been so
richly blessed over the past eight years.
In 1999 Kenneth and Samantha Finlayson began the search for a facility
to operate a home for abused and abandoned children. After looking in
three nearby villages and finding nothing, we decided to ask the Enmore
Church for their help. As we expected, they were so willing to be of
assistance. We were given five years usage of half of the building. At
that time, was it just one story so we expanded to a second story. The
expanded space has allowed us to take in he 42
children we now have. We URGENTLY need a larger facility. Plans are now
underway for the construction of a much larger and permanent building
just across the road from where we are now. Again God has blessed us more
than we could have imagined.
